Rules & Regulations
General Admission
- Admission to the grounds
- Adults (13 and over): $10.00
- Children (12 and under): Free
- 4-H Members: Free showing 4-H card.
- Three-day passes: $25.00 at the gates or before the event from the office.
- Overnight camping is permitted in assigned camping areas: $60 for the weekend (in addition to daily entrance fees).
- General admission does not include ceilidh, trivia or adult dance admission.
- Note: No admission tickets will be refunded.
Decision of the Judge(s)
The decision of the judge(s) is final. Any person interfering with the judges or officials may forfeit their right to prizes.
Lodging a Protest
- Submit protest in writing within one hour of the cause to the secretary. Include a $20.00 deposit (forfeited if protest is frivolous).
- Violations of rules result in forfeiture of prizes.
Prizes
- Prize cheques distributed on Sunday. Complete mailing address required on entry form.
- All classes are open to the Maritimes.
Exhibitor Entry Fees
- Refer to individual exhibit sections for fees and deadlines.
- No admission refunds for exhibitors; admission required.
Plowing
- Plowing land will be measured and numbered by committee.
- Land selection by lot.
- One and two-sod plow contestants crown three rounds.
- Three or more sod classes crown two rounds.
- One strikeout and one finish per contestant.
- First two furrows not judged.
- No assistance allowed after land is staked. Violations disqualify contestants.
- No hand shaping of furrows or use of stakes.
- Wheels/gauges not allowed on single furrow walking plows.
- Rolling coulters must maintain 1½” clearance from the ground.
- Time: 1½ hrs (2 hrs for County Championship). Overtime results in disqualification from prize money.
- All contestants must start on time.
- Minimum furrow depth: 5 inches.
- Under 16 must start at 9 am.
- Contestants arrange own equipment and horses. Equipment can only be used once per class.
- Skimmers and split crown required in certain tractor classes.
- No plowing without committee permission.
- Two or more sod class contestants must be 16 or older.
- Ladies class: Women/girls 16 or older.
- All plowing classes are open under Canadian Championship rules. County/Provincial reps must be 18+.
- Kings County classes: Residents of Kings or Queens County as of January.
- Horse plowing contestants may have an optional teamster.
- Horses must be on the grounds by 9:00 am unless delayed by transportation.
Horse Shows
- Animals must be owned by exhibitor for at least 30 days before show.
- One rider per horse/pony per class.
- No team competition from horses of different owners (except plowing).
- Registration certificates required when applicable.
- Plow team class horses must have competed in plowing satisfactorily.
- Stallions must be in box stalls and cannot enter championship classes.
General Exhibitor Responsibilities
- Exhibitors must know and follow all rules or be asked to leave the fairgrounds.
- Only judges, attendants, and officials allowed in the judging ring.
- Livestock owners assume all risk; must take safety precautions.
- Fair is not responsible for injuries or damages.
- Report fires to the office immediately.
- No responsibility for loss/damage to personal property or employees.
- Entry paper must include full details of animals, including registry info. False information leads to prize forfeiture and ban.
- Registration papers must be available when requested.
- Animals must be owned by the exhibitor 30 days prior. Lending animals for show use is prohibited. Exceptions listed:
- A) First and second place animals may enter championship classes (except stallions).
- B) Herd animals may enter age/breed sections.
- C) Animals with contagious disease will be removed at owner’s expense.
Prize Money
- Weather may affect prize money distribution.
- Prize money will not be paid if criteria set by Provincial Plowing Match Board are not met.
Dogs
- Dogs must be leashed. No dogs in food/livestock areas (except service dogs).
Parking
- No parking around livestock buildings. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed at owner’s expense.
Note to All Exhibitors
Livestock exhibitors (cattle, horses, ponies) must provide proof of $1,000,000.00 liability insurance in advance.
